紀元前2000年代に古代エジプトピラミッドの壁画に大根が描かれていたことが、最古の記録としてあることから、エジプトが発祥と言われ、後に日本に伝わってきた。
こちらの根拠については、豊橋創造大学短期大学部研究紀要 第36号<61ページ>を引用いたします。
「エジプトのピラミッドの壁画に大根が書かれていることからBC2000年頃にはエジプトで大根の栽培をしていたであろう」と記している.大根は民族の移動と共に大きく二つのルートを経て日本にやってきた.その一つは南ルートである.中東からインドや東南アジア,中国の華南方など温暖多湿な地域を経て到来した.(華南系大根)もう一つは北ルート,すなわち中央アジア・ロシア・モンゴル・チベット・中国東北部,華北地帯や韓国をたどって我が国に伝わった.(華北系大根)
